GLQuake needs to be patched with a beta patch that isn't included in the digital releases. Use _inmm for the former and source ports without an implemented playback feature for digital tracks. It's fairly easy to make WinQuake, GLQuake, or the source ports work with music tracks. Is not like they took the original Quake source code and literally ported it to modern standards (As it was done with the Homeworld remaster, really interesting article if you are into that). In addition, Trent Reznor recently remastered the full sound track and he made it sound even more ‘crisp’ than the original release sounds without de-emphasis applied.įinally, this version also has a pretty annoying menu. Also, the remaster is a project done with an engine wrote (AFAIK) by Nightdive and already released on other projects which are already on GoG. This confusion seems to come from the fact that a certain specific release came with a pre-emphasis flag, but apparently most other discs, including the earliest ones from the main issuing, didn't have it. Night Dive accepted the common rumour that the original Quake CD had pre-emphasis at face value and used tracks with de-emphasis applied to them, which results in a muffled sound. The result is that the game just sounds weaker.Īs for your reason for wanting to play the EE, the music isn't implemented correctly either. The problem with the latter seems to be that the sounds were resampled and perhaps also because some form of surround effect was added. Gibbing also feels different and less satisfying, in part due to the way the gibs receive light and in part because of the different processing of sound. Certain places just lack the stronger highlights which they used to have. Together with the way things like ambient and dynamic lighting have been implemented, the visuals just feel darker and muddier somehow. The new visual effects can be nice, but the graphics feel off because Night Dive couldn't port the original static lighting and had to redo it. While it is interesting to see the new version, having finally played it recently, I wouldn't recommend it over the original versions or even the more faithful source ports. (Image credit: Bethesda) A new update for Quakes enhanced version is out, adding in significantly more bot and modding support for the remastered shooter that released in August.

In the Victorian era, heart-shaped lockets became a fashionable symbol of devotion, especially after Queen Victoria frequently wore them to honor her beloved husband, Prince Albert. Originally, lockets were used to hold relics or even poison during the Middle Ages, but over time, they evolved into sentimental tokens that kept cherished memories and emotions close to the heart. The mantra translates to, “I bow to Lord Vishnu who preserves and protects the universe, who is pacific, who lies on the divine serpent, from whose navel arises the Lotus with the power of creation, who is the Supreme Being, who holds the entire universe, who is all-pervading as the sky, who is dark like clouds and has a magnificent form. It is believed that if devotees recite Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya daily, Krishna will stand by them and respond to the calls of their hearts immediately. As such, the most common understanding of this mantra is a reverent salutation to Vishnu as Krishna. Vasudevay can either refer to Krishna, the god ( devaya) of light ( vasu), or the infinite and formless universal energy of Brahman. Bhagavate refers to one who is divine, blessed or considered to be Godlike. Namo can be translated as “to bow to” or “to pay homage to,” and is often used as a salutation representing spiritual surrender. Om is the primordial and sacred sound vibration of the universe, believed to encompass universal energy. Some Kripalu practitioners interpret the meaning as “I bow down to the divine light within,” thereby using the mantra as a means of self-realization. In addition to its use in Vaishnavism, Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevay is popular in the Kripalu tradition. It is considered a maha or ‘great’ mantra. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevay and Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya are generally used interchangeably.ĭue to the nature and multiple meanings of Sanskrit words, translations of Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevay vary, but all indicate praise for the supreme god. This mantra is understood to be a moksha or mukti (liberation) mantra, recited as a way to achieve spiritual freedom from samsara, or the recurring cycle of death and reincarnation. However, this mantra is recited as much for the benefits of the sacred sound vibrations as for any specific meaning. Regardless of this difference, both traditions agree that Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevay is the supreme Vishnu mantra.įound in the ancient Hindu text, Vishnu Purana, Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevay can be translated as “I bow to Lord Vasudeva (Lord Krishna)”. Known as the Dwadasakshari or ‘twelve-syllable’ mantra, Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the incarnation of Krishna.Īccording to the Tantric tradition, the Rishi (seer or sage) who originated this mantra is Prajapati, but in the Puranic Tradition the Rishi is Narada. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevay (Sanskrit: ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय) is one of the most popular Hindu mantras, central to the tradition of Vaishnavism.
Why isn’t my hand dropping these slices of orange onto your tongue, Diaspora? Why have I come to Brazil, Brother? To infiltrate the black movement. Is this Africa: a slit trench and a split lip, a photograph of a police chief smoking a cigar as the ear of a dead child catches his ash. I think to tell him of Katrina, but I say nothing of water- melon vines growing around the dark in graves from North Carolina to New Jersey, the bomb, MOVE, the symphony hall of atrocities in which every seat is full, but is this the meaning of diaspora? I come with the dead tucked in- to my duffle, my genocides folded into my wallet and you come with yours and we shout across the chasm of this train car comparing whose dead sing louder or more often or now. This, meaning winter rain unable to flow into the gutters because of bodies lining the streets. Do you have this in America? This, meaning kites. Soon there will be gunfire, drugs, and dead children head-to-foot along the paves and unpaved roads leading in and out of this favela. Those are suicide notes, he says, the kites. The bee above his head, the kites drifting from the hills, the white puffs of cloth, slew-footed, wading into the sky like a wasp drunk on insecticide. What are you here for? The children waiting for bottles of water to be thrown from each car. This man whom I have peeled two oranges for since this train left Rio de Janeiro and, because his hands were full, placed each quartered wedge in his mouth. He covered six continents, transporting 20 ton ship loads of hash, tons of cocaine, and completed more than 100 sorties across the US border with plane loads of marijuana. No, I will not focus upon the spines of the men walking these rails, yelling cerveja, coca-cola, agua, these men who bare no resemblance to ghosts but even as they pass disappear into motes and motes of dust most of us are too busy to notice falling inside a sleeping child’s mouth. I will not focus on the wasp at the window, the cat’s white hair stretching along this orange peel, or even the train’s green breath, its asthmatic clack upon these arthritic tracks that turn every head into a cautious metronome. § 3564(a) (1988), which provides that a sentence of probation imposed after Novemis presumed to begin on the date of sentencing unless the district court expressly orders otherwise, codified a rule applicable to sentences imposed before 1987).I will begin with braces strung across a man’s teeth as a downed kite might string itself across four lanes of a seven-lane highway and bid a barefooted child to wade into evening traffic and slip. 1 "here is a long-standing presumption, when the record is silent, in favor of concurrent sentences when the defendant has been found guilty on two counts and has been sentenced to imprisonment on one count and probation on the other." This odd trio of sounds continues throughout, in a stable way without much variation in delivery, matching the steadiness of Nirvana’s version. Starting off with some bongos and sitar, a much deeper voice than I was anticipating then jumps in. Since Nirvana’s version starts out fairly subdued before turning up the volume, this cover squared is a bit trippy. They started out as a Scottish rock duo in 1986, but being covered by Nirvana helped them gain a more international audience. Cobain was a big fan of The Vaselines, who are still active as a band today. This song starts a pattern of covers in the Unplugged session. Dieter Weslowski – Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam (The Vaselines cover) Towards the end there is a guitar solo that transitions into a lulling tune before returning to the distinctive riff. There is a vibrating sound in the background of the verses that just touches your ears, enough to be noticed, but not obtrusive enough to be part of the main accompaniment. Maybe it’s the lighting and dramatic hat shielding the singer’s eyes. This cover is a bit more measured than the original and comes off even more melancholic. It is apparently one of the top most streamed ’90s song on Spotify. “Memoria, memoria,” this song remains a classic. “Come As You Are” followed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” as a single promoting Nirvana’s second album, the one that launched the band into the spotlight. Yes The Raven – Come As You Are (Nirvana cover) Raneri’s voice is less gravelly than Cobain’s, but it still evokes the sense of straining in the lyrical delivery. The almost musical-theater style piano in this cover plays up the poppy aspects of the song, but the acoustic guitar in the chorus and the vocals give some edge to balance the song. This is actually a fairly poppish tune, reportedly inspired by Meet the Beatles!, but it is roughened by the grunge vocals. Most people don’t own it.” The song gained new life by being promoted as the single off of this album, helping it reach number one Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart. Kurt Cobain starts off Nirvana’s Unplugged session with this introduction: “This is off our first record. To celebrate the historic day, we’ve compiled covers spanning a variety of artists who reimagine each track.Īnthony Raneri – About a Girl (Nirvana cover) This album has a variety of accolades, including a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, a number one debut on the Billboard 200, a 5x platinum certification, and the top spot on New Musical Express‘s 50 Greatest Live Albums list. The band chose to build their Unplugged setlist using mostly lesser known songs, including six covers out of fourteen songs, passing over their biggest hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The performance was filmed in one take and differed from the style of many of the previous MTV Unplugged sessions. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Nirvana’s live album, MTV Unplugged in New York. The performance was recorded on November 18, 1993, aired on MTV on December 16, 1993, and released as an album almost a year later, the first Nirvana release since Kurt Cobain’s death in April. The band is credited with increasing grunge music’s recognition beyond the Pacific Northwest, introducing the genre to the masses. Nirvana has sold more than 75 million records, joining the ranks of Aretha Franklin, The Police, Journey, and Tupac Shakur among others, despite having their career tragically cut short by the death of Kurt Cobain after they’d released only three albums. |
